5 Smart Questions from a $10k/month Nutrition Coach

89% of my 417 new clients came from just 2 sources—plus the 5 biz questions that top coaches ask me. Learn how Justin Miller built a $10K/month nutrition coaching biz, and what actually drives sustainable client growth (hint: it’s not Instagram).
Happy 2-Tips Tuesday!
Here are two ideas to consider this week.

1. 5 Smart Questions from a $10k/month Nutrition Coach
Last week, I had the chance to jump on a 1-on-1 business mentoring call with Justin Miller who’s a very successful nutrition coach and PRO$ER Certification grad.
Justin is crushing it. He works for a fitness & nutrition coaching company, as well as for himself, gets all of his client work done in about 3-5 hours/day, and consistently makes over $10,000/month. Wow.
When Justin and I had our private 1-on-1 mentoring call, these were the 5 questions he asked to cover:
- Given my goal of $25K–$40K/month while staying lean, what kind of offer or business model would you recommend I focus on?
- From your perspective, what tends to be the biggest untapped opportunity for a solo coach with strong retention but inconsistent lead flow?
- If you had to create a simple, consistent lead generation system without paid ads, what would it look like?
- When it comes to converting leads into clients, what elements or steps do you think most coaches overlook?
- If you were building a $500K/year solo coaching business and only had 25 hours/week to work, how would you prioritize your time?
The amount we covered in an hour of private coaching was mind-blowing, and he left with some key breakthroughs he could fix on his website to turn it into a 24/7 sales machine.
That’s my favorite part about PRO$PER. It’s not just another nutrition certification.
It truly is a 1-on-1 mentorship program where I get to dive into your business, and help you grow and scale your dream nutrition coaching practice. And I’m so excited to be opening up more mentoring spots next month, so stay tuned.
If you want to check him out online, Justin gave you my blessing to share:

2. Top Referral Sources: My Own Data
I have a rock solid inflow of new nutrition clients. In fact, things have been so busy this year, that I’m currently booking all the way out to October, and still have over 20 clients waiting to get started sooner on my cancellation list (and that’s after a big price raise this year). Yippie.
But Tip # 2 is about helping you get new nutrition clients if you have inconsistent lead flow, just like Justin’s biggest struggle.
Here’s what’s interesting. I barely post on social media these days. I certainly don’t go out of my way to make fancy reels or try to go viral.
Why? Because I listen to the data. My client data to be specific.
When I share this secret, the coaches I mentor are relieved to hear that social media isn’t the be all, end all to getting new clients. Especially if you hate are exhausted by online drama and being on your phone all day.
So since you’re an insider, I’m going to share my exact numbers with you, and this fun word cloud I made after polling 417 new sign-ups.

DATA SET: 417 New Nutrition Clients in the Past Year
After reviewing where all my new nutrition clients came from this past year, the results were crystal clear:
Google + Word of Mouth = almost everything.
Social media? Barely mattered.
From 417 new clients:
215 → Google / Online Search
118 → Word of Mouth
40 → Doctor / Healthcare Referral
21 → Health Unit Directory
9 → Social Media
5 → Other
2 → PRO$PER Network
2 → ChatGPT
2 → BOD POD Testing
2 → Local Sign
1 → Event / Talk
My interpretation?
Google + online search is driven by:
- My website (which does really well on Google search and converts well)
- Having 350 Google reviews attached to my Google profile
Word of mouth is driven by:
- Doing a really good job with my nutrition clients (coaching games, engagement, surprise + delight moments)
- Making connections with other local healthcare professionals
These are the two highest impact activities that drive almost all of my new business.
89% to be exact (215 online search + 118 word of mouth + 40 healthcare referrals / 417 = 89.4%)
Sometimes the numbers tell the story better than the marketing gurus, especially if you are a solopreneur with limited time, energy, and resources. 😉
