Would you eat a chocolate bar for breakfast?

Most diets fail because they focus on food, not psychology. One of my clients lost 100 lbs when we rewired her habits, including realizing her morning coffee was basically a liquid chocolate bar. Here are the 7 psychology shifts that made all the difference.

Happy 2-Tips Tuesday!

Here are two ideas to consider this week.

By Jennifer Broxterman, RD

1. 100 lb of Weight Loss (Psychology Strategies)

I helped a client lose over 100 lb, and three of the shifts that made the biggest difference had nothing to do with calories, macros, or willpower.

What worked instead?

We focused on rewiring her psychology:

  • Why she was eating when she wasn’t hungry
  • Why liquid calories weren’t triggering fullness
  • Why perfectionism was wrecking her motivation

If you coach nutrition clients and want to see the 7 psychology-first shifts that helped her lose 100 lbs without crazy restriction, I break it all down in this week’s new YouTube video:

2. Your Morning Coffee Might be a Liquid Chocolate Bar

In the video above, I walk through 7 psychology-first shifts that helped one of my clients lose over 100 lb.

This one shocked her the most.

Every morning, she ordered a large Tim Horton’s Double Double — a classic Canadian coffee order with two creams and two sugars. She thought it wasn’t a big deal. But when I showed her the numbers, her jaw dropped:

“Honestly? You’d be better off eating a Snickers bar.”

Not that I recommend chocolate bars for breakfast.

But those liquid calories weren’t triggering fullness, just adding up behind the scenes to over 800 calories/day when we added up her coffee, soda, and wine calories!

And when we cracked down on her liquid calories, the weight finally started coming off, without eating less food.
