Why Willpower Doesn’t Work for Healthy Eating
Willpower isn't the secret to healthy eating. Learn why "disciplined" people structure their lives to avoid temptation rather than resist it, and how designing a supportive food environment beats white-knuckling your way through every meal.

Kind Nerd Note: Willpower isn't the secret to healthy eating. Building an environment that makes the healthy choice the easy choice is.
Tip #1:
Why Willpower Doesn’t Work for Healthy Eating
One of the biggest myths I see in nutrition is the belief that healthy eating success comes down to more willpower.
In fact, I hear some version of this almost every day:
"I know what to do. I just need more discipline."
But if healthy eating was really about willpower, then why do so many smart, motivated, successful people still struggle to stay consistent?
Well, I decided to drop a new YouTube video on exactly this topic:
I break down what I believe is one of the biggest lies in healthy eating and share some of the same mindset, habit, and environment coaching strategies I use with my own nutrition clients.
I dive into:
- The "What the Hell Effect"
- Why all-or-nothing thinking keeps people stuck
- The Toothbrush Analogy (one of my favorite coaching tools)
- How to make the healthy choice the easy choice
- Why habits and environment matter more than motivation
If you've ever felt like you're failing because you "just need more willpower," I'd love for you to watch this one.

Tip #2:
Environment > Willpower
"Disciplined people are better at structuring their lives in a way that does not require heroic willpower and self-control. The way to improve these qualities is not by wishing you were a more disciplined person, but by creating a more disciplined environment."
